A Day in the life of Varsha

"Self grooming is no longer a fancy pursuit of the vain".A beautician seems to be a necessity for a urban life.We met with Varsha on a gloomy monday evening at the Femina beauty saloon. She works as a hair style trainee.Currently she helps the hair style and make-up experts in the saloon.Ms.Varsha hails from coimbatore. This 39 year old lady narrated about her life after marriage, ambition and childhood dreams to us.
Asked about her childhood dreams,Varsha in her adorable coimbatore accent said that she wanted to become a police officer. But due to certain financial constraints in her family she could not become one.She completed her plus two and then got married. As a home maker, she managed the house hold. But then her husband's income was not sufficient to meet the family requirements and hence she finally stepped out to support her family.
And things have looked upward since then.Varsha began her career working as a help assistant in beauty parlours. She has to mortgage her jewels to finish a diploma course in hair styling."Confidence is the prime factor that makes me move forward" is what she quotes. She takes pride in stating that she has not borrowed a single penny from her kith and kin.
This lady strongly believes that time management is a prime element which helps her to manage a hectic day schedule. She returns from work only around 8:30 pm and helps her children in academics. The happiest moments in her life were when her children stood outstanding in academics and brought laurels.
At the workplace, she is friendly with customers. She delivers an effective multi-tasking by assisting many experts at the same time. She is so keen in gaining knowledge about various hair styling techniques.
We were able to realize that Varsha is a supporting wife,a sincere worker at workplace and above all a caring mom.Though this woman faced hardships in life she keeps moving on.
Her story is an inspiration for each and every woman...

Why pgdm???

Being an engineering graduate, I have acquired a concrete knowledge about the technical aspects. But I do believe that one can manage an organization more efficiently if he/she is well equipped with managerial skills.A blend of the managerial and technical skills helps a person reach greater heights.I preferred pgdm to mba because pgdm is more of practical exposure and helps us to enhance our soft skills. We do have a contemporary curriculum and a flexible course structure which helps us to understand the core concepts in a much better way. This course gives an appropriate knowledge about the corporate environment and it’s working culture. There are various case studies, current situations and real time analyses. The pgdm graduates also get good placement offers as they are well trained to face crucial real time situations.Hence I do think I have taken a crystal clear decision of choosing pgdm which will chisel my personality and career.

Business letter(accepting job)

Why PGDM????

When an Institute secures autonomy they design their own curriculum to be taught instead of following outdated University syllabus. The reason why I chose to do PGDM is because the curriculum can be updated regularly depending on the need in Industry. Hence one can say that PGDM courses are more Industry relevant as compared to MBA courses. PGDM has a focus on building soft skills and is industry-oriented. It prepares you for the job market. PGDM graduates get superior management education and enviable placement offers from global companies autonomous institute does not have to follow university standards , it is free to change its curriculum according to industry standards and change in business environment. PGDM will prepare graduates for senior level positions in industry and paves the way for a strong corporate career. Hence, I was looking for a career in the challenging area of management so decided to pursue PGDM.

FUN AND FROLIC AT FUN REPUBLIC

It was Saturday evening. We were strolling along the busy roads of Avinashi. It was then that we caught a glimpse of Fun Republic – a total entertainment destination to chill out. Located amidst a cluster of educational institutions,  this mall promises to offer a different shopping experience to the denizens.

As we tried to sneak in, the guards at the gate showed the other way for the entrance. It was then, when we heard a gang of girls grumbling about the improper way to entrance. But as we stepped in, we were dumbstruck by looking at the infrastructure of the mall. It has a unique design with a large dome shaped structure which makes it stand distinct amongst the other malls in the city. There are a wide variety of shops. As per the affinity of teenagers and youth towards brands, this mall brings together some of the hottest names in the retail sector – Shopper’s Stop, Reliance group, a host of other retail brands and fast food giants like Mc Donalds’s.As we were glancing at the elegant showrooms, Malathi ,a 30 year old woman remarked that the mall has a great look.

As we were striding towards the escalator, we encountered a family which seemed to be trying it’s luck with the escalator.”The escalators are at standstill” is what they said. When asked about the mall, they told us that they are eagerly waiting for the gaming zone to get opened. The family did enjoy the pleasant ambience. One among those came with a suggestion that jute bag stalls could be put up in the central arena.

After having a hearty meal at Mc Donalds, our noses had a tingling when we sensed a rich chocolate aroma. As we rushed to check out the chocolate store, we met Mr. Sanjay who expressed his dissatisfaction with the parking lots. But he remarked that he really enjoyed relishing the different types of cuisines in the food court.A few of them felt that it would have been nice if there had been a couple of wash basins installed near the food court. Mr.Deepak told us that he found it easy to locate shops with the help of the electronic displays at each floor picturizing the map of the mall.

The mall can also have some coffee shops in it’s lounge which would attract the youth.Though the mall has some flaws, it is undoubtedly a perfect place for shopping and entertainment.People irrespective of their age can have an enthralling experience.Fun republic is a mere place for fun and frolic and is a tough competitor for Brookefields.

Beware of ATMs!!!!!!!Cash Retraction in Indian ATMs withdrawn.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked banks to disable their cash retraction facility at ATMs.
Cash retraction is a facility availed in which when we use an ATM card to withdraw cash it takes a few  minutes for the cash to come out. This time window varies from bank to bank.If we don't collect the money the ATM swallows the cash and keeps it in a separate tray in the machine. The amount is re-credited to the account after a while.
But from now on,if you fail to collect the cash, the ATM wont retract.Instead the money will remain at the mouth of the ATM machine.Hence if we forget to collect the cash, someone else can take it.HDFC and Axis banks have already posted these notices on their ATM screens and websites. The people should collect the cash as soon as it is dispensed.
So, the next time you are at the ATM, be careful or you might  make the person standing behind you in the queue, richer.

Deciphering the banking sector

“India cannot have a healthy economy without an effective and a sound  banking system.”
India’s banking system has reached several outstanding achievements. I think the prime reason for the enormous growth of India is due to the location of banks in the remote corners of the country. The country’s banking system is very structured. The Reserve Bank of India stands first in the hierarchy. Being called as the “Banker’s bank” it is the central bank which formulates, implements and monitors India’s monetary policy. It has a majority stake in the State Bank of India.
This blog focusses on the modern banking sector which has abundant facilities like e-banking, establishment of ATMs, introduction of credit and debit cards and much more. The facility of internet banking enables the person to access his account from any corner of the world. Hence the modern banking system has revolutionised the choices available with the customers. But the banking sector reforms are still not complete. A lot more is required to revamp the public sector banks. The option of allowing foreign direct investment beyond 50 % in the Indian banking sector has also been under consideration. Many industrial sectors are based on the banking system. The growth and the future prospects of the Banking industry will also be discussed in the upcoming posts.
